Tungsten Forgings

Who can forge this part in this alloy, and can they take the size and weight?

What it is

Parts shaped by compressive force while hot, producing grain flow that follows the part contour and mechanical properties superior to machining the same shape from plate or bar. Sold as open die, closed die, ring rolled or isothermal depending on geometry and volume.

Typical dimensions
Ounces to well over 10,000 lb depending on press capacity.
Also known as
forged parts, forged components, die forgings, rolled rings, hand forgings

Suppliers

Grouped by what they actually are. A mill and a distributor answer different needs.

    AS9100Tungsten Heavy Alloy (WHA)

Tungsten heavy alloy in sheet, rod and plate form, plus sintered, drawn and swaged rod for kinetic energy penetrators. Rod for kinetic energy penetrator production and machining. Tungsten heavy alloy in rod, sheet, plate, bar, block, cube and sphere form. Melt origin is recorded as not-applicable because this is a powder metallurgy route: doped powder is pressed, sintered and worked to fully dense product, and nothing is melted. Do not read DFARS 252.225-7009 specialty metals onto this. For tungsten the governing restriction is 10 U.S.C. 4872, which bars metal melted OR PRODUCED in China, Russia, North Korea or Iran, so the question to ask is where the powder came from. Elmet is US-owned and operated, but the US has essentially no tungsten mine production, and powder origin is not published. Confirm it per lot.
