Silicon Carbide Metallization and Brazing

I need a hermetic ceramic-to-metal seal or feedthrough. Who metallises and brazes it?

What it is

Depositing thin metal layers, typically tungsten or copper, onto a ceramic surface so that filler metal will wet it, then brazing the ceramic to metal hardware. This is how a ceramic becomes part of a hermetic assembly, which it otherwise cannot.

  • CoorsTek Reported
Golden, CO · Mill Converter Service provider

CoorsTek offers metallized ceramic and ceramic-to-metal seals among its services, and names silicon carbide among its materials. HELD AT MEDIUM because those two statements are made separately. That SiC specifically is metallized and brazed is an inference, not a published claim. It is a strong inference given CoorsTek's SiC pressing and HIP capability already recorded here, but confirm it directly. Note also that SiC is harder to metallise than alumina: it is covalent and non-oxide, so the moly-manganese route used on alumina does not transfer, and an active braze alloy is normally required.
