Rare Earth Magnets Magnet Alloy
Who melts and strip casts NdFeB or SmCo alloy in the United States?
What it is
The melted and cast magnet composition before it is milled, most often as strip cast flake. Strip casting rather than book moulding is what gives the fine, uniform grain structure a high energy product magnet needs, so the casting route matters as much as the chemistry.
- Typical dimensions
- Strip cast flake, typically 0.2 to 0.5 mm thick.
- Also known as
- strip cast flake, NdFeB alloy, SmCo alloy, magnet feedstock alloy
Suppliers
Grouped by what they actually are. A mill and a distributor answer different needs.

Electron Energy Corporation Reported
Samarium-cobalt alloys created in house in the United States, which the company states lets it tailor magnetic properties to the application. Domestic alloy production is the substantive part of a DFARS 252.225-7052 answer, because that clause reaches back through the whole chain.
