Copper Forgings

Who can forge this part in this alloy, and can they take the size and weight?

What it is

Parts shaped by compressive force while hot, producing grain flow that follows the part contour and mechanical properties superior to machining the same shape from plate or bar. Sold as open die, closed die, ring rolled or isothermal depending on geometry and volume.

Typical dimensions
Ounces to well over 10,000 lb depending on press capacity.
Also known as
forged parts, forged components, die forgings, rolled rings, hand forgings

Suppliers

Grouped by what they actually are. A mill and a distributor answer different needs.

Production methods

The same form, purchased as tolling on your own material.

Open-Die Forging 1

Deforming heated stock between flat or simply contoured dies that do not enclose the workpiece, working it through repeated bites and manipulation. Used for large simple shapes and for converting ingot into billet.

  • Warren, MI · Service provider

Copper-chrome-zirconium forgings are used for rocket engine components. Confirm press capacity for your part.

Closed-Die Forging 2

Forming heated stock in dies that fully enclose the workpiece so metal fills an impression, producing near net shape parts with repeatable geometry. Requires dedicated tooling, so it favors volume.

Forging is named among the six in-house processes. Recorded against closed-die forging as the normal route for brass fittings and valve bodies, but the die type is NOT specified. Confirm before designing to it. OWNERSHIP: this is the fourth Wieland record in this atlas. If you are counting independent copper sources rather than supplier rows, collapse them.
